Volunteers
For over thirty years, volunteers from our community and from around the world have contributed their time and expertise to sustain Resource Center facilities and programs.
Steering Committee (board) members, office receptionists, program organizers, fund raisers, student interns, phone tree and mailing assistants, communication systems consultants, workshop coordinators — nearly 200 individuals annually contribute over 3,000 volunteer work hours.

Possible Volunteer Opportunities
Front Office Worker - Receptionist-
The front office is the central hub of the RCNV communication wheel. During times of domestic or global crisis, the Center is often the first place people call for accurate information about unfolding events. Volunteers who staff our front office answer the phone and reply to questions about RCNV programs and events. They sell books and other items available at the New Society Bookstore, and help staff with special projects. There is no better way to learn about ALL of the RCNV programs and activities than doing several shifts of Front Office work.
Front Office Workers are asked to commit to a specific work schedule, 2 - 4 hours per week, weekday afternoons noon-2:30pm and 2:30-5:00pm. Qualifications: ability to attend to detail, enjoy working with a variety of people, and a good sense of humor.
Bookstore Volunteers
Bookstore volunteers help to keep the New Society Bookstore open and available to our supporters. Volunteers are asked to help out once a week or once a month. Activities include: helping out with orders and stock, making sales of CD’s and tapes, T-shirts, posters and of course books. Qualities that are helpful include love of progressive publications, enjoy working with the public, folk music, and the arts.
Special Projects Volunteers
Volunteers who get to know the center through events, programs and volunteer work often find a passion for particular projects and programs. Volunteers are central to the operation of the following programs of the RCNV and we would not be able to offer these programs and projects without the efforts of volunteers:
* Spring 2004 RCNV hosts the No. Cal. Peace Organizations Annual Conference
* Direct Action Network (DAN)
* Youth Soccer Leagues for Lower Ocean & Beach Flats
* Santa Cruz Art & Revolution (SCAR, street theater)
* Million Mom March, Local Chapter & National Organization
* Mideast, Mexico & Latin America Delegations
* Middle East Peace Studies and Workshops
* Global Militarism & Economics Studies
* Property and Grounds Maintenance
Special Events Volunteers Throughout the year, the Resource Center for Nonviolence hosts a variety of Special Events from John McCutcheon to Howard Zinn, Helen Caldicott, to Congresswoman Barbara Lee and our Annual Dinners. We rely on supporters to help organize and present much of what we offer. If you have enjoyed a particular special event, or if you see an upcoming event you want to be a part of please Contact Scott Kennedy for more information.
