Event Type

There will be speakers who have previously served either directly, or indirectly with UN sponsored programs. Refreshments will also be served during this celebration.

Speakers include:

UN in the Field: Pam Sexton & family spent 2 years in E. Timor

Raffi- spent 3 months with the UN in Slovakia

David Sweet-Professor Emeritus, UCSC Latin-American Studies and leading authority on UN’s Declaration of Human Rights

Tim Fitzmaurice– UCSC Lecturer and former City of Santa Cruz Mayor

How it all started

In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference on International Organization to draw up the United Nations Charter. The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by a majority of signatories.
