National Transit Equity Day is February 4th, recognized on Rosa Parks’ birthday for her pivotal role in combating racial segregation on public buses, trains and trolleys. Equity Transit is sponsoring a week of activities honoring this national coalition event.

A lack of robust, equitable transportation is a major barrier to education, jobs and opportunity, and is a top predictor of future poverty. Prior to the 1940-50s, the United States had one of the world’s greatest public transit networks. Public Transportation is a Human Rights and Civil Rights Issue! The destruction of our once great public transit systems has systematized racism and classism in this country.

Access to Robust Public Transportation is a Civil Right!

Safe streets, a key component of Transit Equity Day, are integral to accessing public transit as well as ensuring that children can bike safely to school and that the most vulnerable members of the community, including elderly and disabled, can walk and roll safely through our streets

Come join us in community at the Live Oak Grange for a movie night followed by an opportunity to discuss people’s ideas afterwards. Light snacks will be provided.

Transit Equity Week is sponsored by the organizations below

This list may be updated (Organizations with an * will have a booth at the Feb 4th Watsonville Family Fair event)

**A lack of access to robust public transportation is a major barrier to education, jobs, and opportunity and is a top predictor of future poverty! **Traffic violence has skyrocketed here and across the US! **Traffic accounts for more than 1/2 of our greenhouse gases and other toxic chemicals. **What can we do?

Join us at (4) four community events to share ideas, learn, and activate a better transportation future for everyone in our community and a just transition for labor.
