ARRT (Artists Respond and Resist Together) is collaborating with the Resource Center for Nonviolence (RCNV) to build momentum and inspire a more informed and active citizenry with its third annual juried exhibit at RCNV (612 Ocean St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060)
ARRT exhibit Theme: Human/Nature
Against the backdrop of an increasingly endangered planet, art is gaining new relevance. We recognize that we have entered a new geologic era, the Anthropocene, marked by the impact of human activity on the earth and its resources. Hence the title of the exhibition is Human/Nature implying the relationship humans have to the natural world. But at the same time we as artists can contemplate Human Nature and how it might provide some window of hope, for it is in our very nature to flourish, heal and nurture. Art can be instrumental in pointing the way towards a more ecologically sustainable future.

- Friday, August 9: 2nd Annual Community Conversation – The Role and Power of Art in Shaping Political and Social Changewith David Solnit, TJ Demos and Martabel Wasserman. How we as citizens in this community can participate and engage. Doors open 6:30, conversation begins at 7:00pm. David Solnit is a climate justice, global justice, anti-war, arts, and direct action organizer, an author, a puppeteer, and a trainer from the Bay Area. He is co-founder of Courage to Resist, co-author of Army of None. He is co-founder of Art and Revolution, using culture, art, giant puppets and theater in mass mobilizations, for popular education and as an organizing tool. TJ and Martabel are from the UCSC Department of History of Art and Visual Culture.
- Saturday, August 10, 10AM – 4pm: Hands-On Artmaking for Change Workshop with David Solnit. A day long workshop on climate justice and its intersecting movements and struggles.
