A Force More Powerful: Exploration of active  nonviolence adapted from  Pace e Bene’s course, “Engage.”

4 Tuesdays in February (2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22) from 7 -9 pm at the RCNV,  515 Broadway, SC, CA 95060.  Sliding scale $5 – $25 per session.

These four sessions are an exploration of the principles, methods and potential impact of active nonviolence in the spirit and tradition of Mohandas Gandhi to change people, build community and transform society. Participants will engage in role playing, discussion, and actual (brief) practice of the Gandhian methods. They will have the opportunity to meet and dialog with local nonviolent activists.

Each session will include some of the following topics:
Common assumptions about violence;
Responding to violence;
Cultural beliefs and attitudes about nonviolence;
Exploring nonviolent living;
Structural violence and nonviolent power;
Putting nonviolence into social action;
Taking social action into the community.
Participation will include: Role-playing exercises; Small-group dialog; Brief documentary films; Brief readings.
Participation will NOT include: Lectures; Right or wrong answers; Right or wrong questions; Tests of any kind.
Prerequisite: a commitment to be open to all sides of an issue and to respect all members of the group, some of whom you may disagree with.
