Tuesday, June 11, about 10 AM, the City Council will hear public testimony on City of Santa Cruz funding for community programs. The subcommittee recommended full funding for most programs, including day services at the Homeless Service Center, but recommended cutting funds to the Homeless Garden Project and Barrios Unidos. Over the last 5 years funding for social services was cut 25%. The city manager reports a stronger budget this year. Services for the most vulnerable people should be a priority as City revenues begin to grow again.
