Resource Center for Nonviolence 

Position:  Administrative & Program Staff

The Resource Center for Nonviolence seeks a new staff member to conduct social media, outreach, administrative, and program coordination tasks in a collaborative team of 4 half-time staff members. The position is half-time, 23 hours per week, paying $15 per hour. The person hired for this position will use a variety of interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills to further the mission of the Resource Center for Nonviolence. The Center has an egalitarian structure. Work hours are flexible.

Position: Administrative & Program Staff

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES  (approximately 11 Hours/week, variable)

1. Coordinate Social Media, Outreach and Publicity: 

Manage RCNV website, enter weekly RCNV web and blog content, expand RCNV web traffic, and update RCNV information, video links, and archives on the website; Strengthen and expand RCNV’s social media    presence and produce compelling content (YouTube, Fb, Twitter, Forums, Instagram, etc.); Coordinate targeted publicity and outreach for events and RCNV facility via social media and print/radio; Expand outreach/publicity to diverse constituencies including youth, LGBTQ, communities of color and spiritual communities; Coordinate, edit and post RCNV videos for RCNV events.

2. Volunteer and Intern Coordination:

Expand, improve and coordinate RCNV’s volunteer and intern program. Work with current volunteers and connect with new volunteers/interns; Collaborate with other staff to develop meaningful volunteer opportunities; Expand RCNV’s volunteer capacity by networking with the Volunteer Center, UCSC, Cabrillo, etc.; Schedule, orient and oversee volunteers/ interns for office hours, events and mailings; Respond to email inquiries; Plan and implement two annual recognition events for volunteers.

3.  Administrative Responsibilities, in collaboration with other staff:

Organize and maintain office systems including filing; Oversee office volunteers; Conduct RCNV financial business as needed; Coordinate Email Newsletters; Coordinate mailing and email lists; Coordinate thank you’s for donations; Keep the office environment functional, accessible, orderly and safe for visitors, volunteers and staff; Order and maintain office supplies and equipment as needed.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES  (approximately 8 Hours/week, variable)

1. Nonviolence Training  Perform outreach and publicity for trainings to diverse constituencies including youth, LGBTQ, communities of color; Assist other program staff with trainings.

2. Practice Nonviolence program

Collaborate with other staff and community partners to develop and implement educational programs/ forums that amplify nonviolent voices locally, in the U.S. and abroad; Build RCNV’s impact by encouraging and supporting creative nonviolent activism efforts and movements, creating connections and building community; Mainstream nonviolence values and practices by representing RCNV in community forums; Build bridges between diverse communities.

Other ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES  (approx. 4 hrs/ week, variable)  

All staff will:

*Commit to nonviolence and the mission of the Resource Center for Nonviolence.

*Maintain regular office hours.

*Actively participate in staff and Steering Committee meetings and retreats, RCNV programs, and special  projects. Representation on sub-committees will be divided among staff.

*Actively participate in fundraising for RCNV’s budget and operations.

*Coordinate one major fundraising event and letter per year.

*Update and maintain relevant areas of RCNV website

*Commit to a mutually supportive and collegial working relationship with other staff and volunteers.

*Maintain  clear and regular communication with all staff.

NOTE:  The balance of time spent on administrative vs. program responsibilities may vary. The first 3 months will include orientation to RCNV and training in Kingian Nonviolence or other nonviolence methods.

Desired Skills and Experience:

*Commitment to nonviolence and core values of the Resource Center for Nonviolence

*Team member who is committed to consensus decision-making and shared responsibilities

*Familiarity with nonviolence and compatible methods of community organizing

*Demonstrated follow-through with responsibilities

*Excellent social media and web skills, including WordPress,YouTube, Fb, Twitter, Forums, Instagram, etc. are mandatory

*Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal communication skills

*Experience with non-profit or other organization a plus

*Administrative support experience a plus

*Experience working or living with diverse persons or communities

*Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

*Fluency in Spanish a plus

*Photoshop, InDesign skills a plus

*Video or film editing skills a plus

*Flexible availability

*Some college experience

*One year’s work experience At least one year commitment
